Salt system repair

Hayward AquaRite, Pentair IntelliChlor, Jandy AquaPure and TruClear. Cells, flow switches, control boards, and the scale problems hard water causes in Westlake Village, Calabasas and Thousand Oaks.

A salt cell is a wear part. Three to five years in our water is typical, and cleaning it every few months stretches that.

Common problems

Low salt light, but you just added salt
The cell is near the end of its life, or the water is cold. Cells read low under about 60 degrees.
Check cell or inspect cell
Scale on the plates. Needs an acid clean, or replacement if the plates are worn.
No flow
The flow switch, a dirty filter, or air in the line. Often not the salt system at all.
No chlorine in the water
A dead cell, a board fault, the output turned down, or stabilizer so high the chlorine can't work.
Corrosion on the pad
Salt splash on metal, or a bonding problem. Worth fixing before it eats a heater.
Panel shows nothing
Power, a fuse, or the board.

What we do on site

We test what the cell is actually producing in volts and amps, check the flow switch, and read the board. A cell that's scaled gets cleaned. A cell that's worn gets replaced. Boards and flow switches are stocked for the common systems.

We also check salt, stabilizer and calcium levels, because a salt system on badly balanced water will scale up again in months.

Systems we repair and install

Hayward AquaRite and AquaRite Pro. Pentair IntelliChlor and iChlor. Jandy AquaPure and TruClear. We also convert tablet-chlorine pools to salt, and we'll tell you what that does to your plaster, stone and equipment before you decide.

Common questions

Is salt water hard on my equipment or stone?

A salt pool is still a chlorine pool, just a mild one. The salt level is about a tenth of seawater. Natural stone and some metals need rinsing and a sealed surface, and we'll point out anything on your pad that's at risk.

Why is my pool green if the salt system is on?

The cell may be dead or scaled, the output may be turned down, or stabilizer is so high the chlorine is tied up. A test tells us which in a few minutes.

How often should the cell be cleaned?

Every three months is a good habit here. In very hard water, more often. Scale left on the plates shortens the cell's life.
